It’s no secret that I am a big fan of Simon Sinek. Late last year, I got to hear him speak and was enthralled as I have been with each and everyone of his books – the most recent one being “The Infinite Game” – which was such a great read.
So, for a little bit of inspiration, I have put together some of my favourite Simon quotes. Which one is your favourite?
“A team is a group of people that works together with common purpose, not just a group of people assigned to work on the same project.”
“What good is an idea if it remains an idea? Try. Experiment. Iterate. Fail. Try again.”
“Before we can build the world we want to live in, we have to imagine it. Greatness starts with a clear vision of the future.”
“It is better to have a great team than a team of greats.”
“To be authentic is to be at peace with your imperfections.”
“Trust is not born out of what we do well. Trust is born out of what we believe.”
“Don't give to get. Give to inspire others to give.”
“A weak leader likes to tell us how many people work for them. A great leader is humbled to tell us how many people they work for.”
“There are two types of decisions: good decisions and lessons learned.”
“Weak leaders have the luxury of looking after themselves. Great leaders have the honour of looking after others. “
“Giving direction is not the same thing as giving directions. Directions are instructions how. Direction is the reason why.”
“When leaders are willing to prioritize trust over performance, performance almost always follows.”
“We are only in charge when we are willing to let others take charge.
The only true competitor in an infinite game is yourself.”
“Excitement comes from the achievement. Fulfillment comes from the journey that got you there.”
“When you win, remember next time you could lose. When you lose, remember next time you can win.”
“The value of learning is greater when we share what we have learned.”
“We don’t just trust people to obey the rules, we also trust that they know when to break them.”
“Building trust requires nothing more than telling the truth.”
“You can’t do it alone. So, don’t pretend you can.”
“Arrogance is thinking something is perfect after the first draft. Humility is knowing there is always room for improvement.”
“If we work to make every day better than the day before, imagine what our days will be like at the end of our lives.”
“Dream big. Start small. But most of all start.”
“If we think about everything we have to do, we feel overwhelmed. If we do the one thing we have to do, we make progress.”
“Instead of expending energy to fit into the group, it’s better to expend energy to find the group in which we fit.”
“There is a difference between losing and failing. Losing reflects the score. Failing reflects or attitude.”
‘An architect imagines what if. A builder figures out how to. Great structures emerge only when the two work well together.”
“Greatness is only possible if you believe, without a doubt, that the future is bright.”
“There may be patterns for the things that succeed, but that doesn’t mean there’s a formula for success.”
“Hearing is listening to what is said. Listening is hearing what isn’t said.”
