Are you Practicing Gratitude and Compassion in 2021?

One thing that 2020 has taught us is that we are stronger when we come together and share our resources and support one another. When we help each other, we gain a strong sense of community. We also know that according to the science behind positive psychology we gain a significant boost to our own personal sense of wellbeing and positive emotions when we assist, support or help others.

During changes and challenges in the workplace, we also see that on many occasions, it seems like it is “every man/woman for him/herself”. But what if we looked out for those who were struggling with change or workplace challenges and consider how we might support them through a difficult period of time.

With that in mind, I have fallen in love with this little vignette that is currently doing the rounds on social media. Take a look:

A teacher gave a balloon to every student, who had to inflate it, write their name on it and throw it in the hallway. The professor then mixed all the balloons. The students were given 5 minutes to find their own balloon. Despite a hectic search, no one found their balloon. At that point, the teacher told the students to take the first balloon that they found and hand it to the person whose name was written on it. Within 5 minutes everyone had their own balloon.

The teacher said to the students: “These balloons are like happiness. We will never find it if everyone is looking for their own. But if we care about other people's happiness....we'll find ours too.

Be there for others during difficult times or challenges and you will be surprised by the positive outcome. 😃
